Robert Morris is led by 16th-year head coach Andrew Toole
Robert Morris (0-1 SU, 0-1 ATS, and 1-0 O/U) trailed by a large margin early and never recovered at Iowa, as the home team shot 61 percent from the floor and made a living at the free-throw line (36-for-44). The Colonials held their own on the glass, but were outscored 44-22 in the paint. The Hawkeyes also forced 23 RMU turnovers, leading to 33 points.

This is Robert Morris' 50th season at the D-I level. The defending Horizon League champion Colonials are coming off a 26-9 season (15-5 in conference play) in which they reached the first round of the NCAA Tournament. They are led by 45-year-old head coach Andrew Toole, who is in his 16th season (252-241 record) at RMU. The former UPenn guard and Red Bank, NJ native has a new-look team this season, as 11 of RMU's 12 scholarship players moved on. Alvaro Folgueiras, the conference's POY, transferred to Iowa, and Amarion Dickerson, the Horizon's DPOY, left for USC. Robert Morris was picked to finish fourth in the Horizon League's preseason poll.
The Colonials' leading returning scorer is junior guard Ryan Prather Jr., who averaged 8.3 points last season with a 39.7 percent shooting mark from three-point range. RMU brought in three true freshmen and nine transfers to fill out its roster, most notably junior forward Nikolaos Chitikoudis, who averaged 10.8 points and 9.3 rebounds at NC A&T. The 6-foot-9 Greece native led Robert Morris with 14 points and nine rebounds in his team debut against Iowa. A few other Colonials to watch are sophomore forward DeSean Goode (IU Indy transfer), sophomore forward Josh Hill (Arkansas State transfer), and freshman guard Darius Livingston.

Drake has a new roster and coach this season
In first-year head coach Eric Henderson's debut, Drake (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS, and 1-0 O/U) held off the Lumberjacks in a neutral court battle on Monday in the Field of 68's Opening Day Marathon. The Bulldogs trailed 31-28 at halftime, but rallied to score 49 second-half points. While inefficient from long range (7-for-22), Drake won the rebounding battle and scored 34 points in the paint. Northern Arizona attempted 13 more shots, but was held to 37 percent overall.
The Bulldogs went 31-4 last season, winning both the Missouri Valley regular season and conference tournament championships. They advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to Texas Tech. As expected in the current state of college basketball, the successful season had its drawbacks. The mid-major program returns less than one percent of its scoring, rebounds, assists, and steals, and lost head coach Ben McCollum to Iowa. Drake was picked to finish sixth in the MVC preseason poll.
The 2025-26 Drake basketball team features two returning players and 11 newcomers, including seven transfers and four freshmen. Three Bulldogs were named to the Missouri Valley's Preseason Players to Watch List: senior forward Isaiah Carr (6.3 PPG and 4.3 RPG last season at Denver), senior guard Jalen Quinn (7.1 PPG at Loyola-Chicago), and senior guard Jaehshon Thomas (9.5 PPG at Charlotte). Quinn and Thomas were solid in their team debuts, scoring 20 points and 15 points, respectively. A few other Bulldogs who stood out against Northern Arizona areย junior forward Wilguens Jr. Exacte (14 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists), junior guard Braden Appelhans (14 points), and sophomore forward Okku Federiko (12 points and 8 rebounds).

Robert Morris vs. Drake Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for Robert Morris vs. Drake
- Colonials +8.5 (4 Units)
Both teams feature new-look rosters, and while Drake has home-court advantage, I don't envision the Bulldogs covering the spread. The home team struggled to put away Northern Arizona and will have its hands full trying to contain the higher-tempo Colonials. The visitors welcomed in many new players, but there is still continuity in leadership, as Toole has been at the helm for 16 seasons. The same can't be said for the home team with Henderson coaching his first home game.
Robert Morris was run over by former Drake coach Ben McCollum's Iowa team in its season opener, but the Bulldogs aren't nearly as efficient offensively as the Hawkeyes. The Colonials will keep the score close in the first half and play competitively enough in the second half to cover the spread.
Over/Under Pick for Robert Morris vs. Drake
- Under 148.5 (5 Units)
I don't anticipate a lot of scoring in Thursday's matchup between the Colonials and Bulldogs. There doesn't appear to be a significant rebounding edge in this matchup, and it would surprise me if one side dominated in the paint. Neither team was sharp on offense earlier this week, and with so many new players taking the court, they haven't had enough time to gel. The Bulldogs will slow down the pace to their liking at home, too. They project to be a slow-tempo team this season, ranking fifth from the bottom, per Haslametrics.
