Pitching Matchup

Miami Marlins - Janson Junk

Junk is 6-8 with a 4.21 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 98.1 innings. The right-hander has allowed 102 hits and 26 walks while recording 68 strikeouts. Junk has surrendered 12 home runs. His walk total has remained relatively low for his workload, but opponents have collected more than one hit per inning. Junk’s 68 strikeouts are also well below Alvarez’s total despite pitching nearly 14 more innings this season.

Washington Nationals - Andrew Alvarez

Alvarez is 2-6 with a 3.72 ERA and 1.35 WHIP across 84.2 innings. The left-hander has allowed 76 hits and 38 walks while striking out 80. Alvarez has surrendered only five home runs, seven fewer than Junk. His 3.72 ERA is also lower than Junk’s 4.21 mark. The 38 walks have increased his WHIP, but Alvarez has countered too many baserunners with more strikeouts and limited damage from home runs.

Miami Marlins vs Washington Nationals Game Pick

  • Miami Marlins

Miami has the stronger overall pitching, which matters against a Washington lineup that has produced plenty of power this season. The Marlins rank ninth in MLB pitching with a 3.88 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, while Washington ranks 27th with a 4.69 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. Miami also owns a winning record and remains four games from the final Wild Card spot. Washington won Friday, but the Marlins’ stronger staff and deeper hitting numbers support Miami as Sunday’s pick.

Miami Marlins vs Washington Nationals Over/Under Pick

  • Over

Washington’s recent scoring and season power numbers point toward another game with steady run production. The Nationals have scored 31 runs across their last five games, reaching seven or more three times during that stretch. Washington has also hit 190 home runs and scored 713 runs this season. Junk owns a 4.21 ERA, while the Nationals’ pitching staff has a 4.69 ERA and .257 opponent batting average. With Washington scoring regularly and both starters allowing baserunners, the over is Sunday’s pick.
