Milwaukee Brewers vs Tampa Bay Rays World Series Game 5 Picks, Prediction, Odds, and Line Movement for Wednesday October 28 2026

By: Alex MacMillan Published 10/28/2026, 01:09 PM ET

Milwaukee came within three outs of its first World Series championship on Tuesday before Tampa Bay turned a 12th-inning error into a stunning 4-3 walk-off victory. The Rays have avoided a sweep, but the Brewers still lead the series 3-1 and will hand the ball to Jacob Misiorowski in Game 5 on Wednesday night. After a game that demanded 12 innings and repeated bullpen decisions, the pitching situation is now the central difference between these teams.

Milwaukee has a rested ace ready to make his second start of the series. Tampa Bay, which used all five of its late-season starting pitchers across the previous four nights, had not confirmed a Game 5 starter as of Wednesday's midday preview. The Rays have an excellent home record and renewed confidence after surviving elimination, but the Brewers' advantage is more concrete than momentum: they know who will open the game, and their most important late-inning arms remain available.

Milwaukee Brewers vs Tampa Bay Rays World Series Game 5 Preview

Game 4 was closer to a Milwaukee celebration than the final score suggests. Cooper Pratt hit a go-ahead solo homer in the top of the 12th, but Tampa Bay's comeback began when Joey Ortiz made an errant throw on Junior Caminero's grounder. Liam Hicks, Jonny DeLuca, Chandler Simpson and pinch-hitter Ben Williamson followed with singles, and Williamson delivered the walk-off hit. The Rays earned another game by keeping contact pressure on Milwaukee long enough for one mistake to matter.

That result cannot erase Milwaukee's larger advantage in the series. The Brewers won Games 1 and 2 by 3-2 and 5-4 scores before their 10-1 Game 3 rout. They have 10 postseason wins against two losses, and their full 2026 record, including the playoffs, stands at 113-61. Tampa Bay is 106-69 overall and 8-5 in the postseason. Both teams have demonstrated they can win close games; three of four World Series games have been decided by one run.

Jackson Chourio has remained the toughest Milwaukee hitter for Tampa Bay to contain. His 10 hits through four World Series games matched Babe Ruth's mark from 1928, and he has recorded multiple hits in every game of the series. Pratt added four hits and the 12th-inning homer on Tuesday. With Christian Yelich, William Contreras and Brice Turang behind those young contributors, the Brewers can create damage through sustained traffic rather than relying on a single home run.

Tampa Bay's counter is speed, contact and the final at-bat. Simpson recorded three hits in Game 4, while DeLuca contributed both critical defense and a run-scoring single during the decisive rally. Yandy Diaz, Jonathan Aranda and Caminero still present dangerous matchups in the upper half of the order. The Rays have scored just 11 runs through four games, however, and they cannot assume another late defensive breakdown will give them a second opportunity.

Pitching Matchup: Jacob Misiorowski vs Tampa Bay's Unannounced Starter

Misiorowski is the clearest starting-pitching advantage in Game 5. The Milwaukee right-hander went 16-5 with a 1.80 ERA in the regular season, leading MLB in ERA, strikeouts (252) and WHIP (0.80). He has a 2.70 ERA in three postseason starts and allowed one run on four hits in five innings against Tampa Bay in Game 1. He returns on four days' rest after Brewers manager Pat Murphy kept him out of Tuesday's extra-inning relief scramble to preserve this start.

The innings behind Misiorowski matter nearly as much. Abner Uribe threw 19 pitches Tuesday and Trevor Megill threw only five, leaving both positioned to work again. Aaron Ashby recorded seven outs on 31 pitches and may also be available. A long start from Misiorowski would reduce the pressure on a relief staff that has already handled difficult late innings throughout this postseason.

Kevin Cash's choices are less straightforward. Drew Rasmussen started Game 2 and would be on three days' rest. Freddy Peralta started Monday, while Griffin Jax opened Game 4. Nick Martinez contributed two relief innings Tuesday, and Ian Seymour worked an inning on 32 pitches. Tampa Bay could turn to a bullpen game, with fresh options including Cole Sulser, Steven Matz and Garrett Cleavinger. That approach can work for a few innings, but the Rays must find nine innings' worth of outs against a lineup that has consistently extended at-bats and forced pitching changes.

Milwaukee Brewers vs Tampa Bay Rays Odds and Line Movement

Milwaukee has been quoted at different prices across the available Wednesday references: -150 in the supplied matchup screenshot, -141 at DraftKings in a published odds snapshot and -160 at Bovada in another listing. These are cross-book prices, not evidence of a chronological move in one market. Tampa Bay's home performance and Tuesday's comeback help explain why the favorite is not priced more aggressively despite the difference in starting-pitcher certainty.

The 2026 venue splits are substantial on both sides. Milwaukee is 52-35 on the road, and Tampa Bay is 60-28 at Tropicana Field, with those records already including the completed postseason games. On the historical first-five run line, Tampa Bay is 52-36 at home compared with Milwaukee's 43-43 road mark. Those records reflect different opponents, pitchers, lines and prices; they do not establish an advantage at tonight's specific first-five number, especially with the Rays' starter unresolved. For more season-long context, see our MLB betting trends coverage.

The total of 6.5 is unusually tight and reflects the prospect of a strong outing from Misiorowski. Three of the first four World Series games have finished with at least seven runs, although Milwaukee road games have gone 41 Over, 44 Under and two pushes, while Tampa Bay home games have produced 39 Overs, 44 Unders and five pushes. Those historical totals were played at varying numbers, so neither the season-long under lean nor the short series sample settles Wednesday's total.

Best Bet: Milwaukee Brewers Moneyline (-141 or Better)

Milwaukee is the preferred full-game side because Misiorowski gives the Brewers a dependable opening plan while the Rays may need to piece together the first five innings. His five one-run innings in Game 1 showed he can navigate Tampa Bay's lineup, and his regular-season dominance is a stronger reason to favor Milwaukee than simply pointing to a 3-1 series lead. If the Brewers can carry a narrow lead into the sixth or seventh, Uribe and Megill offer credible options to finish the game.

The price is the limitation. At -141, Milwaukee must win more than about 58.5% of the time to break even. Past records alone cannot answer that pricing question, and the uncertain Tampa Bay pitching plan is not a reason to chase the favorite at any number. The recommendation is limited to -141 or a better return; the more expensive -150 to -160 quotes do not offer the same room for error.

Tampa Bay's 60-28 home record deserves respect, and another competitive game is entirely plausible. The Rays also have a chance to make Misiorowski work early, take advantage of one defensive mistake and keep the Brewers from closing out a close contest. The moneyline is preferable to Milwaukee's run line because a one-run victory has been the dominant shape of this series, and the Rays have repeatedly shown they can shorten games once their pitching staff settles in.

Game Thesis: Misiorowski provides the first five innings of stability that Tampa Bay currently lacks, while Milwaukee's lineup depth and late-relief options give the Brewers the more convincing nine-inning path. A close Milwaukee win is more plausible than a comfortable margin.

Final Prediction

Prediction: Milwaukee Brewers 4, Tampa Bay Rays 3

The Brewers can win their first World Series championship in Game 5 if Misiorowski limits early damage and their bullpen avoids a repeat of Tuesday's 12th-inning collapse. Tampa Bay has earned another chance, but Milwaukee has the clearer pitching plan and remains the pick to finish the series Wednesday night.
