The Angels are also 16 games behind Cleveland for the final AL Wild Card spot and have lost four straight after Wednesday’s 4-3 defeat to Cleveland. Here are our free MLB picks.

Philadelphia Phillies Have Clear Power Advantage

Philadelphia has scored 608 runs with 161 home runs while posting a .242 batting average, .312 on-base percentage and .403 slugging percentage. The Phillies rank 18th in MLB batting, but recent scoring has been stronger than that ranking suggests. Philadelphia scored 27 runs across its last five games, including 12 against St. Louis and six in Wednesday’s shutout win over Seattle. The Phillies are also 36-30 on the road and have a plus-23 run differential this season.

Kyle Schwarber has driven Philadelphia’s power numbers with 40 home runs and 81 RBIs. Bryce Harper has 27 homers and 77 RBIs with a .267 average, .385 on-base percentage and .507 slugging percentage. Brandon Marsh leads the Phillies with a .272 average, while Trea Turner has a team-high 127 hits and 17 stolen bases. Philadelphia ranks 15th in MLB pitching with a 4.10 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and .249 opponent batting average across 134 games.

Injuries: Derek Hill is day-to-day. Rafael Marchan is on the 10-Day IL, Caleb Kilian is on the 15-Day IL, and Tanner Banks and Felix Reyes are on the 60-Day IL.

Los Angeles Angels Try to Stop Four-Game Slide

Los Angeles has dropped four consecutive games and owns a 3-7 record over its last 10. The Angels scored 14 runs during their four-game losing streak and have been outscored by 75 runs this season. Los Angeles ranks 27th in MLB batting with a .235 average, along with a .310 on-base percentage and .374 slugging percentage. The Angels have scored 548 runs and hit 132 home runs while posting a 29-39 record at Angel Stadium.

Zach Neto leads Los Angeles with 22 home runs, 64 RBIs and 123 hits, while Mike Trout has 20 homers with a .382 on-base percentage and .434 slugging percentage. Nolan Schanuel owns a team-best .276 batting average with 108 hits and 49 RBIs. Pitching has also been a problem for Los Angeles. The Angels rank 22nd in MLB with a 4.28 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. They have issued 550 walks, while opponents are batting .234 against them.

Injuries: Wade Meckler is on the 7-Day IL. Shaun Anderson and Samy Natera Jr. are on the 15-Day IL, while Sebastian Rivero and Yoan Moncada are on the 60-Day IL.

Pitching Matchup

Philadelphia Phillies - Cristopher Sanchez

Sanchez is 16-4 with a 2.62 ERA and 1.22 WHIP through 168.1 innings. The left-hander has allowed 168 hits and only 38 walks while recording 194 strikeouts. Sanchez has surrendered 14 home runs across his workload. His strikeout total and low walk count have helped him build one of the strongest records on Philadelphia’s staff.

Los Angeles Angels - Ryan Johnson

Johnson is 3-7 with a 5.75 ERA and 1.43 WHIP across 67.1 innings. The right-hander has allowed 65 hits, 31 walks and 16 home runs while striking out 50. Johnson’s home-run rate stands out, as he has allowed two more homers than Sanchez despite pitching 101 fewer innings. His 5.75 ERA is also more than three runs higher than Sanchez’s 2.62 mark heading into Saturday’s game.

Philadelphia Phillies vs Los Angeles Angels Game Pick

  • Philadelphia Phillies

Philadelphia holds the strongest advantage on the mound, where Sanchez owns a 2.62 ERA and 16-4 record against Johnson’s 5.75 ERA and 3-7 mark. The Phillies also have more power, hitting 161 home runs compared with 132 for Los Angeles. Schwarber and Harper have combined for 67 homers, while the Angels have lost four straight. Philadelphia is 36-30 away from home and holds a Wild Card spot. With Sanchez starting and the stronger lineup behind him, the Phillies are Saturday’s pick in Anaheim.

Philadelphia Phillies vs Los Angeles Angels Over/Under Pick

  • Over

The starting pitching matchup is uneven, but Philadelphia has enough scoring potential to push this game toward the Over. Johnson has posted a 5.75 ERA with 16 home runs allowed in only 67.1 innings, creating a difficult matchup against a Phillies lineup with 161 homers. Los Angeles owns a 4.28 team ERA and has allowed 623 runs this season. Philadelphia scored 27 runs across its last five games, including three games with at least six. Those numbers support the over on Saturday night.
