San Francisco and Colorado wrap up a three-game series at Coors Field. The Giants beat the Rockies 8-2 in the opener, while the middle game has been excluded from the analysis. This preview was published before Tuesday’s results.

The Giants are hot                      

The San Francisco Giants hit three home runs at Coors Field last Monday. Rafael Devers slugged a solo home run to open the scoring, while Drew Gilbert and Willy Adames clobbered a two-run homer each. Gilbert went 4-for-4, scoring three runs on the afternoon.

It was the Giants’ eighth win in nine games. During that stretch, San Francisco has accounted for 69 runs on a sturdy .307/.373/.513 triple-slash, while the Giants bullpen has compiled a 2.88 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and a .234 batting average against.

Robbie Ray will be on the bump Wednesday, and the 33-year-old left-hander carries a 10-6 record with a strong 3.18 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 28 starts (164 innings pitched) in 2025. However, Ray has struggled over his last four outings, allowing 16 runs (13 earned) on 22 hits and nine walks through 22 innings of work.

Ray is 6-6 with a 5.13 ERA in 21 career starts against Colorado. He’s met the Rockies twice this season and yielded four runs (two earned) on eight hits and four walks across 11 innings of work. Ray holds a 5.09 ERA at Coors Field (46 IP), and the current Rockies are 11-for-38 with three doubles against him.

The Rockies continue to struggle                                      

The Colorado Rockies outhit the Giants 13-11 last Monday, but it wasn’t enough. The Rocks managed to score just a couple of runs, while rookie Chase Dollander surrendered six earned runs through five innings of work.

It was Colorado’s ninth defeat in 11 games. The Rockies have scored just 33 runs on a .238/.285/.363 triple-slash during that stretch, while their bullpen has recorded a 4.24 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and a .245 batting average against.

German Marquez will toe the rubber on Wednesday night. The 30-year-old right-hander is 3-12 with a pedestrian 6.14 ERA and 1.68 WHIP in 21 starts (102.2 IP) this season. He returned from a biceps injury last Friday and gave up eight earned runs on nine hits and three walks through 4.1 innings in an 11-7 loss to the Cubs.

Marquez is 5-11 with a 6.80 ERA in 18 career starts against San Francisco. He met the Giants once in 2025 and yielded five earned runs on six hits across 4.1 frames in a 9-3 road loss. The current Giants are 15-for-59 with two doubles and five home runs against Marquez.

San Francisco Giants -1.5 (5 units)

Robbie Ray hasn’t pitched well of late, but the Giants have emerged victorious in five of Ray’s last six starts. San Francisco’s lineup has caught fire lately, and I noted above how good the Giants’ offense has been over the last nine games. The Giants bullpen has done a great job, too, so I’m backing San Francisco to beat the runline.

German Marquez is having a bad season. He was awful last time out, and the veteran righty owns a 6.36 ERA at Coors Field in 2025. The Giants have been destroying the righties over the last 10 days (.943 OPS and 164 wRC+), so Marquez will have a tall task to keep them quiet. On the other side, the Rockies have struggled against the lefties in the past 10 days, posting a .615 OPS and 65 wRC+.                       

Over 11.0 (5 units)

I can only look at the over despite the Rockies’ recent woes against the left-handed pitchers. Robbie Ray hasn’t been at his best lately, and he yielded four runs (two earned) across four innings of work at Coors Field in June.

German Marquez cannot be trusted. The Giants know him well, and I expect Marquez to struggle. The Rockies bullpen has been shaky all season, so the Giants should be able to extend their strong run of form at the dish.
