Giants are in the thick of the NL Wild Card chase

San Francisco (76-77 SU, 71-82 RL, and 72-75-6 O/U) lost two of three games to Arizona in its previous series. The Giants are 4-6 in their last ten games (the over/under was split 5-5).

SF will turn to right-hander Kai-Wei Teng on Saturday against Los Angeles. In his last outing (4.0 IP no-decision versus the Diamondbacks), the 26-year-old surrendered one run (zero earned) on two hits with five strikeouts. He is 2-4 with a 6.41 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in seven appearances (26.2 IP) this season, including 1-3 with a 5.85 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in five road starts (20.0 IP).

The Giants don't have the notoriety of their National League West division rivals, but they have been competitive in the NL West this season, especially recently, winning five of their last eight series. San Francisco is still ten games back of LA in the division, but is only three games out of the NL Wild Card race. Can they finish strong to make the playoffs?

San Francisco Giants Injury Report: No injuries for tomorrow's game against the Dodgers.

Los Angeles' Glasnow has fared well vs. San Francisco

Los Angeles (86-67 SU, 66-87 RL, and 71-75-7 O/U) lost two of three games to Philadelphia in its previous series. The Dodgers were 7-3 in their last ten games (the over was 5-4-1).

LA will turn to righty Tyler Glasnow tomorrow against San Francisco. In his last start, the 32-year-old held the Giants to one run on three hits and four walks, fanning four batters in a 6.2-inning victory. He is 3-3 with a 3.06 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 16 starts (82.1 IP) this season, including 2-2 with a 2.38 ERA and 0.83 WHIP in ten home starts (56.2 IP).

The Dodgers are fresh off a World Series title with the biggest payroll in baseball, but with a 28-28 record in the second half, they are in a tight race to win the NL West. Los Angeles has all the talent in the world, but making it back to the top of the mountain will still be a challenge. Can they hold off San Diego in the division title race?

Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Injury Report: No new injuries for Saturday's game versus the Giants.

Giants vs. Dodgers Pick

Run Line Pick for Giants vs. Dodgers

  • LA Covers Run Line (5 Units)

I'm betting that the Dodgers' starting pitching edge will give them enough cushion to cover the run line on Saturday night in LA. Glasnow is coming off a quality start against the Giants and boasts a 3.12 ERA in seven career appearances against them. Teng has been ineffective in his first few MLB outings and is unlikely to offer the visitors much length (only one start longer than four innings), putting pressure on their bullpen. These teams are both battling for playoff positioning, but Los Angeles is the better ballclub to back against the run line!

Over/Under Pick for Giants vs. Dodgers

  • Over 8.5 (4 Units)

Los Angeles scores 5.55 runs per game at Dodger Stadium (leads MLB in wRC+ at home). LA is also third in wRC+ against right-handed pitchers this year and fourth in overall wRC+ in the last two weeks. The Giants' starter is in for a challenge, to say the least. Glasnow will likely fare well against San Francisco, but consecutive starts against the same team can be challenging. The Dodgers' bullpen is also unreliable (bottom ten in ERA). With the Giants fighting to make the playoffs, they'll put up enough of a fight to push the total over eight runs.
